GoH Gail Carriger presents a Comedy Workshop (free), the Root Beer Tasting is back (free), and we have Arduino Workshops for beginners and advanced users ($40 for parts). Slots are going fast so be considerate of your fellow fen. More details on our special event sign-up page.

Party planning: The FenCon party crew teamed up with ApolloCon and ConDFW to throw our first mega-party at ArmadilloCon 33 this past weekend and we had a blast. Thanks to all the fen who came to party and we hope to see you again very soon. Our next party? Why it's the biggest of the year: FenCon VIII itself. You don't want to miss this one.

Party on: The FenCon party crew is at ArmadilloCon 33 this weekend in historic Austin, Texas. We've teamed up with ApolloCon and ConDFW to throw another of our patent-pending, semi-legendary room parties with good snacks, great people, and a special deal on memberships for FenCon VIII. Join us Saturday night after 9pm in room 849. See you there!

Worldcon news: With 694 of the 760 valid votes cast, it's official: "Texas in 2013" won its bid to host the 71st World Science Fiction Convention. LoneStarCon 3 will be held in San Antonio on Labor Day weekend in 2013. The Guests of Honor will be editor Ellen Datlow, author James Gunn, fan Willie Siros, author Norman Spinrad, and artist Darrell K. Sweet. Toastmaster will be Paul Cornell. Special guests are musician Leslie Fish and author Joe R. Lansdale.

Get a room: Our room block at the Crowne Plaza is filling fast! Reserve your room at the great FenCon rate of just $95 for a King or Double-Double room. (The Executive King suites are sold out.) Whether you reserve online or by phone (972-980-8877), use reservation code FC1.

We're a bunch of sell-outs: Sure, we still have our integrity but we're completely sold out of space in the art show, sold out of tables in the dealer room, sold out of slots in the writers workshop, and sold out of fan tables. We do still have plenty of rooms in our lovely hotel but we're sold out of the executive suites. We also do still have memberships for sale but only at the door.

Time keeps on slipping: FenCon VIII is just over 5 weeks away. This means time is running out to get the best price on memberships, to buy Friend of the Fen memberships, and to get a guaranteed place in the FenCon room block. Don't wait! The future will be here before you know it.

Pencils down: The deadline to enter FenCon's 7th annual short story contest has come and gone. Now our readers begin the difficult process of picking the best of the bunch. We'll announce the winners at Opening Ceremonies during FenCon VIII.

Write faster: The deadline to enter FenCon's 7th annual short story contest has been extended to August 6th. That's today! The winning entry will be published in our 2011 souvenir program book and there are great prizes for runners-up. So put pen to paper, fingers to keys, or quill to parchment and get to work!

We (heart) Joe Lansdale: ...and so does CNN! Check out this recent interview.

We have a winner: Congratulations to author (and FenCon science programming director) William Ledbetter who was recently named as the 1st place winner in the Writers of the Future contest for this year's second quarter!

Program participants: Interest in participating in programming at FenCon VIII and DeepSouthCon 49 has been overwhelming. So much so, our program participant list for 2011 is closed. If you're interested in participating in 2012, please read our updated program participant guidelines. We hope this document will answer most of your questions.

Write on: Space in our 2011 writers workshop is sold out. Taught by acclaimed writer and editor Lou Anders, this year's workshop deals with the crafting of novel proposals. The workshop is limited to 20 people and it's now full. Check out the writers workshop page for info on joining the waiting list.

Get a room: Our room block at the Crowne Plaza is now open! Reserve your room at the great FenCon rate of just $95 for a King or Double-Double room and just $115 for an Executive King. (Hosting a party? You want an Executive King.) Whether you reserve online or by phone (972-980-8877), use reservation code FC1.

And the nominees are... Congrats to 2011 Hugo Award nominees (and 2011 FenCon guests of honor) Brad W. Foster for Best Fan Artist, Steven H. Silver for Best Fan Writer, and Lou Anders for Best Editor Long Form. Congrats to 2010 FenCon special guest Ginjer Buchanan for her Best Editor Long Form nomination and to previous FenCon Guests of Honor Connie Willis and Lois McMaster Bujod for their Best Novel nominations. College (Station) bound! The FenCon party crew is headed south to AggieCon 42 this weekend in beautiful College Station, Texas. We'll be throwing another of our patent-pending, semi-legendary room parties with good snacks, great people, and a special deal on memberships for FenCon VIII.

What a weekend: Thanks to all the fen who partied with us at ConDFW X on both Friday and Saturday nights. It was great seeing old friends and meeting so many new people. Thanks also to the TSFA for throwing another great con and we can't wait to be back next year.

We're throwing a party ...and you're invited! Look for the FenCon party crew this weekend at ConDFW X in Dallas where we'll be throwing parties on both Friday and Saturday nights. Be there!

Membership Sale Extended We know that nothing says "I love you" like the gift of a membership to FenCon. So we're extending our low, low membership price through February 14th! Get your membership right away because this sale will not be extended.

A good read: Check out the latest edition of Argentus, edited by our 2011 Fen GoH Steven H Silver. This popular 'zine has been nominated for multiple Hugo Awards.

Let's Party! Join us for our annual FenCon kick off party on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Dallas. The fun starts at 6:00 pm!

Thanks for the memories: Lots of folks have written some really nice things about FenCon VII. One of our favorites is the article on the Pegasus News site by Mike Bullock. Plus, lots of great pics were taken by X Marks the Scot and by our pal Bobby Hitt. More to come!

It's over: FenCon VII is in the history books now and we'd like to thank all of the dedicated volunteers, staff, and guests who made this possible. Thanks to the fen for making this our biggest year ever and inspiring us to go big again next year. Watch this site over the next few weeks for all the details on FenCon VIII in 2011.

You gave, you rock:
Wow. The good folks at Carter BloodCare told us they hoped to collect 20 units of blood during Saturday's blood drive. The fen lined up and donated 40 units of life-saving blood. Plus, through purchases of our charity print by the amazing John Picacio and at our annual charity auction, you gave over $1230 to help them continue to serve the people of North Central and East Texas.
