FenCon News and Notes

*On Vincent Di Fate: Due to professional commitments, Vincent Di Fate will be unable to join us in person. He will join us via video conferencing for a presentation of his art at 6:00 pm on Friday, and then stay for Opening Ceremonies.

Get a room: Our room block at the Crowne Plaza is closed but a few rooms are still available at the great FenCon rate! Reserve your room for just $95 (plus tax) per night. Reserve by phone (972-980-8877) and use reservation code FC1.

Get dressed: Show off your fannish finest at the FenCon Masquerade, part of the FenCon Cabaret on Saturday night. (We heart hall costumes, too.) Get your entry form and all the details on our Masquerade page.

Attention, fans of Gail Carriger and/or outrageous hats: FenCon Costuming wants you to release your inner Ivy Hisselpeny. Create your own hat inspired by Alexia's best friend and her 'inventive' view on hats. Then bring it with you to FenCon and have it judged by Gail Carriger as part of the FenCon Cabaret. Sign up on-site at the Costumers Anonymous of North Texas fan table.

FenCon VIII: Southern Steam

Join us: Online and by-mail sales are over but you can still get regular, young adult, children's, and one-day memberships at the door.

We have a winner: More than one, actually. Congratulations to Lou Anders who won the Hugo Award for Best Professional Editor, Long Form, at the 2011 World Science Fiction Convention in Reno. Brad W. Foster won for Best Fan Artist and Christopher J. Garcia got a Hugo as co-editor of Best Fanzine winner The Drink Tank. And they'll all be at FenCon this year! Congrats to all of this year's winners.

He's special: We are thrilled to announce that artist Stephan Martiniere will be our special guest at FenCon VIII. He's won a Hugo, a Chesley, a Thea, and more other awards than we can list. If there's an sf/f movie, game, comic, or book cover you've enjoyed in the last couple of decades, there's a fair chance he had a hand in it. Learn more on his website; meet him in person at FenCon.

FenCon is of the fen, by the fen, and for the fen.

We're honored: KTVT, our local CBS station, recently named FenCon as one of the "Best Literary and Book Events in D/FW". Citing our "wide array of activities" for both adults and children, they said "FenCon is the place to be this September." Wow. Check out the complete list.

The social network: Want an easy way to let your Facebook friends know about this year's convention? Point them to our Facebook event page or invite 'em yourself using the links on that page. Spread the word!

Party people: Want to throw a party at FenCon? You must let us know so we can put you on the "party floor". Parties anywhere else may be shut down by the hotel. Send a note to hotel@fencon.org with your name, your confirmation number, and what your party is for. (Bonus: we'll promote your party in the at-con newsletter.)
