This is an archive copy of the FenCon IX website. You're probably looking for the current FenCon website. FenCon News and Notes * Breaking news: Our Science Guest of Honor, Dr. David Hanson, will not be attending FenCon IX. He has been grounded in Hong Kong with deep vein thrombosis and is unable to get medical clearance to fly until next week. Dr. Hanson sends his regrets. We wish him a speedy recovery. Sneak peek: Every member gets a printed copy of our convention guide, a complete listing of all the great stuff happening at FenCon IX, but if you want a sneak peak or to download a copy for your e-book or tablet, here's our 2012 convention guide as a PDF. Give blood: The good folks at Carter BloodCare are returning to FenCon on Saturday, September 22nd, for a blood drive. Last time, the fen donated 40 units of life-saving blood and they ran out of supplies. This year, they'll be on-site in the parking lot from 10am to 5pm and we want to beat that record. Anybody can give so sign up now and encourage your friends and co-workers to do the same. Get here, stay here: We've got regular weekend and single-day memberships for sale at the convention. Plus, there a few hotel rooms still available at the great FenCon rate. Reserve by phone (972-980-8877) and use reservation code FVN. See our hotel page for all the details. FenCon IX: The Future's So Bright... Please give: Our designated charity for FenCon IX is Literacy Instruction for Texas, one of the most widely respected adult literacy education programs in the United States. The purpose of LIFT is simple: to teach illiterate and low literate adults to read English. Our 2012 charity efforts include a limited edition signed/numbered art print by Artist Guest of Honor Donato Giancola and our annual charity auction. All the news that fits: Want to get a jump on the excitement of FenCon IX? Read all about it in the pre-convention issue of the FenCon ION. Our first ever Issue #0 is ready for your reading pleasure. Then look for a new issue each day at FenCon with news, schedule changes, and vital information. They call him Dr. Love: We're thrilled to welcome astronaut Stanley G. Love as a Guest Speaker at FenCon IX. Dr. Love will speak on NASA and his career at NASA, including his mission to the International Space Station on Atlantis as part of the crew of STS-122. Dr. Love will be with us on Friday and Saturday and, yes, he will be signing autographs. Check out his complete NASA biography for all the details on his amazing life and outstanding career.
