A Fan-Operated Science Fiction and Fantasy Literary and Filk Convention in the Dallas/Fort Worth Area Guest of Honor: Alan Dean Foster Music Guest of Honor: Heather Alexander Fen Guest of Honor: Judith Ward Artist Guest of Honor: Darrell K. Sweet Toastmaster: Jim Butcher Special Guest: Lawrence Watt-Evans plus many more guests This is the online archive of our 2006 website. Please also visit our current website. Thank you: Thank you, thank you, thank you! We can't say "thank you" enough to all the guests, dealers, volunteers, and of course the fen who made FenCon III our biggest and best convention yet. In a day or two we'll launch the FenCon IV site with wrap-ups from this past weekend, totals from the charity auction, and lots of photos. Yes, even the embarrassing ones of the webmaster deeply unconscious at the Dead Dog Party on Sunday night after closing ceremonies. FenCon IV: In case you missed the announcement (and haven't made it to the last page of your collectible souvenir program book), FenCon IV will be held September 21-23, 2007, with Guest of Honor Connie Willis, Music Guest Tom Smith, Artist Guest David Mattingly, Fen Guest Kathleen Sloan, and Special Guest Toni Weisskopf leading our third annual writers workshop. Plus a lot more, of course. Look for the FenCon IV website to launch here in a day or two then buy your membership. Lost and Found: Did you lose a guitar? We found one and it's pretty nice so we know the rightful owner wants it back. Contact us at info@fencon.org with a detailed description so we can arrange to return it. 2006 Short Story Contest Winners: Congratulations to the winners of our 2006
contest! Our readers and judges sorted through the overwhelming number of entries and after much
deliberation struggled to pick just three favorites. They are: Things to do, people to see: Map out your FenCon III experience in advance with our updated gaming schedule, video room schedule, main programming schedule, and our guest list. Get involved in our costume contest, bid on our art show, or just check out our charity. See you this weekend!
Hungry?: The hotel restaurant, Zaya's, is offering all FenCon members a 15 percent discount when you show your badge. The breakfast buffet is a great way to start the day without hopping in a car. When you're ready to explore farther afield, a fine grouping of restaurants is just a bit west on I-635 at MacArthur. Lots of sit-down places, theme restaurants, fast food, and more. There are also plenty of restaurants on Forest Lane from Josey Lane east to Inwood Road. There's some fast food and a few decent places north of the hotel at Josey and Valley View. And the town of Addison is just a bit east on I-635 and has about 200 places to eat of every imaginable variety and price level.
We've got game: Our FenCon III gaming schedule is now available with exciting and challenging games scheduled all weekend. Check it out on our gaming page. Get dressed up: Our Costume Competition and Show, part of the Saturday night FenCon Cabaret, is looking for people with style, flair, and the guts to stand up in front of hundreds of cheering fen and bask in their applause. Get the registration form, rules, and all the details on our Costume Competition and Show page.
IMPORTANT: Our convention hotel still has rooms, both King and Double, available at the FenCon rate. If any reservations agent tells you otherwise, please politely get their name and let us know by e-mail right away. We're working closely with Holiday Inn Select® North Dallas to make sure you can get the room you want at the "FenCon" rate. Let's Party: Want to throw a room party at FenCon III? We'd love to have you but we need to know two simple things: First, what is your hotel confirmation number? Second, what night will you be throwing the party? That's it. Just e-mail those two vital bits of info to hotel@fencon.org. This lets us keep the party noise away from folks trying to sleep so the parties can run later without problems with the hotel. Thank you!
Buzz needs you: David Gray is looking for a few good men and women, folks willing to take on the roles of the latest "Buzz Blaster" neo-1950s audio adventure. New for FenCon III is Buzz Blaster Meets the Last Astronaut and David needs lots of voices. As a bonus, you might be featured in a "Making of Buzz Blaster" documentary during the con and you're guaranteed to entertain your friends, family, and total strangers with this old-time radio production. Interested? E-mail David at angelpaw@airmail.net. There's a lot to do and see at FenCon III Guest Update: FenCon III has added last-minute guests Andrew Probert, a an artist best known for his design work on science fiction movies and television series, and thriller author Richard D. Weber. We regret to announce that Beverly Hale is ill and will not be attending this weekend. Also, T.M. Wagner has been forced to cancel due to a work-related scheduling conflict he cannot circumvent. We hope to see them both in 2007. You'll find bios, pictures, and news about all of our guests on the FenCon III guests page.
Guests in the News: FenCon III guest Deborah LeBlanc was elected as president of the Horror Writers Association on Saturday, September 16th. Congratulations to Deborah and we wish her all the best in her term. Congratulate Deborah in person at FenCon III!
